A local university lecturer escaped death by a whisker after comsuming a poisonous substance mixed with Two Keys whisky.
The Womens University in Africa lecturer reportedly attempted to commit suicide at the Chinhoyi City Council Head Offices, but was quickly helped after he was discovered lying helplessly on the ground.
He had with him a bottle with the mixed substances and cellphone in the other hand.
Witnesses that claimed he is one, Dr Mbereko employed at Women’s university.
Witnesses who saw Mbereko said that they had seen him earlier carrying a plastic bag and the Two Keys bottle.
“He came from the direction of Edgar’s mumbling to himself on issues to do with marriage,” a witness said. In a few minutes we heard the sound of something falling then realized that he had fallen down and we rushed to see what had happened”.
All the witnesses of the incidence were shocked that a person of such educational standards could attempt to take own life in the CBD.
“I am shocked that a professional educated doctor at a university could try to end his life in such a manner, we grew up knowing that these educated fellows offer us with social- psychological support when we fall not behaving in such cowardish manners, he could have asked for advice from colleagues other that resorting to such actions, ” said another witness.
Dr Mberekos wife, Olga Laiza Kupika refused to comment stating that she was not aware of the incident.
