Two teenagers aged 14 and 19 were on Wednesday trapped to death in a collapsed mine shaft in which they were illegally prospecting for gold in, at Delon Mine, Shamva.
According to Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo, Mashonaland Central Police acting spokesperson, the two Dencillia Nyarutsanga, a girl aged 14 and Tapiwa Manyika (19) were in the company of Fungai (34) and Tambudzai Kasvava (21) when they went to prospect for gold.
Whilst in the process, the shaft collapsed, trapping them inside.
An excavator managed to rescue Tambudzai and Fungai whilst Nyarutsanga and Manyika were trapped to death.
Dhliwayo urged citizens to formalize their mining operations citing illegal mining activities are causing too much damage to the environment as well as claiming a lot of lives.
