THE late Tapiwa Makore’s family has rejected the latest DNA test results of the jaw, tooth and limp positively matching that of the torso recovered by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
This follows a statement released by Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirming that the DNA test results are out that a tooth and jaw has matched a head torso found in the searches.
The statement reads:“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that communication has been made with the late Tapiwa Makore’s family in connection with the DNA results which were conducted by AIBST DNA Testing Centre and National University of Science and Technology.
“The DNA results showed that the jaw, tooth and limb were a direct match to the torso. All other details concerning the case will be revealed once trial proceedings are in motion”.
However, the Makore family is disputing the DNA results and want a second opinion.
Speaking to state media after the latest development family lawyer Ms Tabitha Chikeya, disputed the latest DNA results arguing that the head cannot belong to Makore given it was found about three days after his death but did not look new.
Earlier the family had set 27 March 2021 as the burial date for the remains of the slain 7-year-old Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore (without head) arguing that they had lost hope in finding the head of their slain child.
On September 17 2020 Tapiwa Makore went missing on while looking after his parents’ garden. His torso was found the following morning, with some parts, including the head missing.
The ZRP has to date arrested six suspects, including relatives, neighbors and some villager’s in connection with the kidnapping and murder.
Tapiwa Makore snr , Thanks Makore and Tafadzwa Shamba (40), the first person are in remand prison pending the murder trial.
It is the state case that on the 17th of September 2020 Tapiwa Makore killers and their accomplices abducted and shepherded him to a mountain and kept him for the whole day before murdering him during the night.
The murderers chopped off his head, arms and legs.
