Masvingo – 14 days of self isolation seemed like forever and the death cases being reported were rising every day and politicians were being swept away, and l told myself l was going to be next, l thought l was going to die but l cheated death with a whisker and l survived.

Covid-19

In an interview with Bustop TV, Covid -19 survivor Rodgers Irimayi narrated his ordeal and how he survived the virus that has swept the entire world. His family got sick but none of them wanted to go get tested.

“My entire family, my wife and my three kids got sick and we all knew that it was Covid -19 and l became the last one to have the symptoms and l decided to go get tested but l already knew l was Covid – 19 positive, the tests were just to confirm my suspicions.  My symptoms were more severe than the ones my family has experienced. I got tested at Masvingo General Hospital and l got my results the same day,” said Irimayi.

After receiving his results, he called the Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Amadeus Shamhu who advised him to go into self isolation.

“I was advised to go into self isolation at home since it was not severe, l could breathe in the afternoon but in the evening l had difficulties in breathing and my family panicked a lot and the deaths in the country were rising and l panicked also, that was the moment when the likes of Sibusiso Moyo, Biggie Matiza passed on and l told myself l was not going to make it,” he said.

Irimayi said that he used the traditional ways and they helped him a lot to recover as well. “I used the traditional ways to make sure l recovered, these are not scientifically proven but they really did help me a lot. I used Zumbani, onions and garlic concoctions and also steaming helped me a lot and made me have peaceful nights. I then slowly started recovering and l thank God that l did not re- infect my family.

“The traditional ways proved to be very effective, there is nothing new about using these traditional ways as we used to use them from before, l am confident that the traditional ways are workable with ,” said Irimayi.

He added that he got monitoring from the Masvingo City Council health department, Ngonidzashe Mapamula who would check on him every day. The symptoms he had were serious headache, chest pains; dry cough then had difficulties with breathing at a later stage but with the help of Zumbani he overcame it, these ways are not scientifically proven but they are effective, these were the ways that were used before even before the coming of Covid -19.

With the traditional methods he is very confident that they are workable with. He advised that people should get vaccinated against the virus.

“Doubts are looming over the issue of vaccination and lots of people are still in denial of the whole process, people should get vaccinated against Covid -19 and this is highly due to the third wave that might face us. So it is better to be safe than sorry, prevention is better than cure. From the experience l had, l advice people to get vaccinated as no one deserves to go what l went through my journey to recovery,” he said.

Covid -19 is real and people should observe all the World Health Organization regulations and follow them.
