The ZIFA Southern Region supremo has announced a possible return of the region’s much anticipated Division One football.

This was confirmed in a circular read by Bustop TV directed to all club secretaries from the Southern Region football board member competitions.

It reads, “May all prospective Southern Region Division One League teams take note of the following resolutions made at the fourth Interregional meeting held in Masvingo on Saturday 4 September 2021.

“The meeting was necessitated by the SRC notice on resumption of sporting activities. With all due respect of all Covid-19 protocols the Regions agreed to

1) Club to furnish the regional office with vaccination registers for all their staff and players between 6-17 September 2021.

2)Pre-season training.

Only registered and affiliated clubs to resume training on 20 September 2021 to 22 October 2021.

Take note that player registration shall be closed on 22 October 2021. Inspection of venues shall be between 20 September to 22 October 2021 and clubs are expected to register their preferred venues with the office.

3) Proposed Season Kickoff.

It was also resolved that the 2021 season kicks off on 29 October 2021 and is expected to run until end of May 2022.

There shall be a christmas break between 17 and 27 December 2021.”

In March 2021, the board once prepared for the resumption of the lower league.

They released the 2021 fixtures for the upcoming season though without any proposed dates and venues for the matches.

Nonetheless, their efforts were fruitless after the government announced another ban of all sporting activities in July following a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The move to push for the return of the lower league football comes at a time when these games were last played in 2019.
