Six members of Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) deployed at Guinea Fowl base claimed a life during their chase on copper cable thieves in Gweru on January 16.

Fortune Mambure (30), Shaibhu Ndara(24), Prince Zinyama(32), Willard Matenda(31), Walter Chikwanda(33) and Simbarashe Mushongahande (36) admitted their offence upon being found by Gweru ClDs.

The deceased Tatenda Munetsiwa (34) was shot after he had gone to witness what was happening at his neighbour’s house who was being assaulted by the accused persons.

The now-deceased confronted the soldiers in a bid to find out what was happening and that provoked Mambure who started shooting towards the owner of the house, his family and the now deceased.

Fearing for their lives they fled in different directions, however the now deceased was shot on the hip and bled to death.

Meanwhile the accused persons are detained at ZRP Gweru central and investigations are underway.
