Police nabs 6 suspects linked to Chitungwiza armed robbery case

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested six suspects linked to a robbery that recently occurred in Chitungwiza, Unit O.

The six are Unit Mutsure (33), Phibion Taruvinga (24), Malvin Mumvurutse (32), Hazvinei Elton Tambare (36), Kufakunesu Ndima (43) and Theresa Chikwange (30).

According to the ZRP statement, on the 12th of May the suspects were operating as bogus police officers and stormed a house getting away with US$7 240.

“Six suspects stormed a house and identified themselves as Police officers before robbing cash amounting to US$7240-00,” reads the police statement.

The armed robbers reportedly fled in a get-away silver Toyota Allion after firing three warning shots in the air.

A child had sneaked out of the house during the robbery incident and tipped a relative who informed neighbors before they confronted the six suspects.

Meanwhile, another group of nine suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising the Midlands province particularly Kwekwe and Gweru were reportedly arrested.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko,Tuesday, confirmed the arrest of the nine to a local newspaper.

The suspects are allegedly part of two machete wielding gangs and were involved in a number of unlawful acts involving robbery, rapping residents and raiding people’s houses attacking victims.

The first gang comprises of Tapiwanashe Sibanda (26), Trust Moyo (26), Sydney Mapende (23), Samuel Murisi (21), Manzebe (21).

While the second gang comprises of Mardon Makuni (20), Tapiwa Never Hlomani (25) and Ashly Moses (23) and Leonard Mapurazi (19) and one is still on the run.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is warning criminals that operations to account for all suspects are in full swing.

“Police will ensure that all criminals involved in armed robbery, rape and other crimes are brought to justice,” a statement from Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi reads.
