THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is worried about escalating murder cases over petty issues, mostly beer disputes.

This comes after police recorded three murder cases which were a result of beer disputes in February alone.

In a statement released on Tuesday, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi urged the public to solve disputes without using violence.

“ZRP is concerned with the continued loss of lives due to petty disputes, especially at beer outlets and other places where the public has access.

“This includes at family level and work stations.

“ZRP reiterates that the public must exercise self restraint when faced with disputes or disagreements with friends, relatives or any member of the society.

“Communities are implored to find peaceful ways of resolving differences or disputes without resorting to violence,” Nyathi said.

On February 23, police in Zvishavane arrested Obert Vengesa Nyoni after he allegedly killed Benny Mukuta over an argument in which the suspect had taken the victim’s beer without  permission.

In Harare police also arrested Peter Sani (39) on 24 February 2023 for allegedly murdering Ernest Kavhiya (47) who succumbed to injuries sustained during a fist fight after an argument during a beer drinking binge on 28th January 2023 at a bar at Glenview 1 Shopping Centre.

In a similar case, police also arrested Obey Francis Tiyago (33) on 25th February 2023,  for beating Munyaradzi Kambudzi (22) with a snooker stick whilst they were drinking beer at a night club in Hatcliffe.

Kambudzi  later died on 25th February 2023 whilst admitted at Parirenyatwa hospital.

Meanwhile police also recorded five different murder cases which were as a result of assault and gun shots.
