Zimbabwe is set to phase out the use of plastic carrier bags by end of December 2022 .
In a circular to retailers , the Enviromental Management Egency (EMA) said: “Globally plastics waste have became a menace hence the need to reduce plastic waste . The Enviromental agency is therefore taking steps towards the phasing out of plastic bags.”
“We encourage your affiliate members to consider the use of non plastic carrier bags which are environmentally friendly . plastic bags are to be phased out by end of December 2022. A Green Economy is the way to go.”
Several countries globally have begun banning the use of plastic bags, while some have enforced restricted laws against the use of plastic bags because of their negative impacts on the environment.
