Zimbabwe has recorded 19 Covid-19 deaths after another patient died yesterday in Midlands province.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care confirmed, “Yesterday we regret to report 1 death at community level. The death occurred in Midlands Province and was detected during routine post mortem as part of our Covid -19 surveillance. We await the full post mortem report of the direct cause of death.”
This is the second death Midlands province has recorded.
49 more cases tested positive yesterday.
“Fourty cases tested positive for Covid -19 yesterday. These include returnees from South Africa (28) and 2 local cases who are isolated. Seven of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases. Investigations are still underway to establish the source of infection for the remaining 14.”
15 recoveries were recorded in Matabeleland South Province.
Yesterday 1 707RDT screening tests and 412 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 91 103 (53 755 and 37 328PCR). To date the total number of confirmed cases is 1 034 recovered 343, active cases 673 and 19 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20March 2020.
The Ministry advises that a cloth mask should be three layered for optimal protection and to always check the layers when buying or producing cloth face mask.
