One person died and two others suffered injuries on Saturday after a vehicle they were on board caught fire at the 92km peg along Harare-Mukumbura highway.

This was confirmed by Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo in an interview with Bustop TV.

Dhliwayo said just over the weekend “Clarkson Mutemeri was driving a Toyota Daina towards Mukumbura with passengers on board whilst carrying flammable substances. On approaching the 92 KM peg, he was alerted by some motorists that his vehicle was burning, and he stopped.

“However, two of his passengers that were at the back of his truck had already jumped out. One of them lay dead in the middle of the road while the other was groaning in pain at the edges of the road and the vehicle was later burnt to ashes” he said.

Assistant Inspector Dhliwayo appealed to motorists to avoid transporting flammable substances without following the correct procedures as prescribed by the Environmental Management Agency.
