Old Georgians offered a Rugby fiesta to starved fans as the ground hosted the Nedbank Challenge Cup and the Paramount garments Under 20 league this past Saturday, February 19.

It was the packed crowd that proved how much the fans had missed the game with about two thousand people coming to watch the matches.

The Nedbank Challenge Cup was used to select potential talent for the national team, The Sables, whilst the Paramount U20 league has been ongoing running into its third week as of this past Saturday.

The only concern noted was that of balanced opposition as all the Nedbank Challenge Cup games were one sided.

First to play were Harare Sports Club who marauded Manicaland Select 66 – 3. Then followed Old Hararians who gave Southern City a serious drabbing by not allowing them to score as they put seven behind the line for a final score of 58-0.
Old Georgians equally had it easy as the went past Harare select by 45-8.

The biggest match of the day was the Paramount Under 20 game between Pitbulls and Old Georgians. The match was not short of excitement as the two teams went to the break with 17 points apiece before Jeff Madhake’s side came back to claim the victory in the second period eventually winning the match 33 – 24.

At the second ground, FS Raiders Under 20 lost 38 – 8 to Old Georgians.

Raiders’ coach Shelton Chiuswa was disappointed but promised to keep fighting.

Chiuswa said, “We did not play according to the plan and our backs let us down today. It is obviously disappointing to lose two in a row but we will fight through. Next week we play Pitbulls but as we know giants are meant to be slain. We can only hope for the best. We now have to go back and correct ourselves.”

Below are the results of the games played this weekend.
