Former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi yesterday filled a police report against an unknown imposter whom he claims is impersonating him using his pictures and name on Facebook.

Mutodi says fears he might be a victim of character assassination

In a statement he submitted to the police, Mutodi stated that he suspects that he is being deliberately targeted .

“I do not know the accused person but l suspect the Ministry of Information employees and those who run ZBC online accounts including internet bloggers who may be paid to do smear campaigns to be behind this,” he said.

He distanced himself from whatever the imposter is sending on Facebook.

“I recall on the 3rd of March 2021 l was alerted by one of my friends on whatsApp to the effect that there was a Facebook account using my name and posted on Facebook a picture that is depicting the First Lady meeting an alleged Second Lady whose identity l do not know.

“The picture has a message has a message, ‘When first lady meets the Second lady, #IfyouknowUknow!!’

The picture and message are surely defamatory and an attempt to cause a character assassination on me as l know nothing in connection with it and l have no account that has such information and neither have l sent such a post.

“The act to use my name and my picture on the fake Facebook account is outrageous,” Mutodi noted.

Mutodi was fired from his post last year in May after posting on Twitter a denigrating statement on the three MDC –Alliance youth leaders Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova following their abduction, sexual assault by alleged state security agents.
