Mthuli Ncube’s policies taking us back to 2008: Robert Chapman

by Bustop TV News

The presidential candidate for the newly formed Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) Robert Chapman, has scoffed at the current Zimbabwe’s monetary policies, claiming that they are bringing confusion in the market and causing real pain to citizens.

If DUZ wins the forthcoming elections scheduled for 23 August this year, Chapman said his administration’s prime concern is to work on monetary policies that would bring substantial and sustained increase in economic growth.

Addressing journalists in Harare on Tuesday, Chapman said the Zimbabwean dollar has shoved the country into the worst economic situation ever.

“Zimbabwean dollar has failed, we should understand that, that’s where all of our problems are emanating from.

“You can see what’s happening in the market currently, nothing is working, that’s the evidence that the current monetary policies are not working, they are taking the country back to 2008,” he said.

“Working on the establishment of a strong currency is our first goal because what’s happening now is not pleasing, the current regime has failed.”

To ensure accountability and thwart corruption in every sector in the country, Chapman added that his party will employ audits to various structures of all sectors of the country.

“We want everything to be clear to everyone and ‘audit’ is the only way to go, so that’s what we are going to employ to every sector of this country, hoping that that will attract foreign investors.

“There is no investor who would want to invest in a country where corruption is rife, no way,” he said.

Chapman also called on all political parties to prioritize national interest and civil unity, and avoid disruption of peaceful political gatherings as we are all gearing up for the forthcoming 2023 elections.

“I am sure you all understand that peaceful and credible elections are essential for democracy to thrive in every country, so I urge all political players to campaign peacefully during the upcoming polls.

“We should campaign peacefully, vote and accept election results without perpetrating violence and harassing citizens,” he said.

Meanwhile, Flitch Solutions, a global advisory and credit rating agency based in the United States, predicted that President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF party will win in general elections.

The agency predicted that the opposition CCC led by Nelson Chamisa will win key votes in low-income urban areas but Zanu-PF will win the overall vote due to “overarching resources” and the advantage of incumbency.
