Zimbabwe’s president, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will get his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine on tomorrow Wednesday in Victoria Falls when the country’s second phase of the national vaccination program will kickstart.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, in a statement, said the second phase will see government beginning to embark on a Covid-19 vaccination roll out campaign that will see residents of Vic Falls being vaccinated.

“This vaccination exercise will pave way for the resumption of unlimited tourism activities in the city which is a world attraction,” he said.

Chiwenga also added that government is targeting to vaccinate 60 percent of the country’s population to help the nation on the spread of the virus.

“Overall, government is targeting the vaccination of 60 percent of the population to achieve herd immunity,” he added.

The Minister of Health also indicated that government will not force citizens to immunize against the novel pandemic, however it will continue educating them on the importance of vaccinating.

The former army general was the first citizen to voluntarily take China’s Sinophorm vaccine last month at Wilkins Hospital in Harare.

Moreover, last week he received his second dose of the vaccine exactly four weeks after he took his first one.

Meanwhile, there are a number of  vaccine conspiracy theories that has led to a slow turn out of people who want to be vaccinated.

Despite this, some essential service workers like nurses, doctors and journalists were voluntarily vaccinated.
