MDC Alliance Bulawayo Provincial Chairlady, Tendai Masotcha was yesterday absolved from the allegations of indirect involvement in the abduction of journalist Tawanda Muchehiwa.

The MDC Alliance said it has found no “conclusive evidence” that she is an informer for the Central Intelligence Organisation.

Allegations against Tendai Masotsha emanated after journalist Tawanda Muchehiwa – nephew to ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu – was allegedly abducted from a parked car in Bulawayo on the eve of the July 30, planned anti-government protests.

Addressing a press conference in Harare MDC Alliance Presidential Affairs secretary Jameson Timba who was the party ad-hoc investigative team as secretary said they were satisfied “on the balance of probabilities” that Tendai Masotcha had not collaborated with the state agents.

“After considering the evidence before it, the committee concludes that there is no conclusive evidence to link Tendai Masotsha to the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa.

There is no smoking gun,” Timba told a news conference in Harare yesterday.

Timba said they “examined all documents relevant to the case including media reports in print, audio and video.”

“In addition, the committee engaged and interviewed all stakeholders including the family and legal representatives of Tawanda Muchehiwa, Tendai Masotsha and other members of the party,” he added.
