Former premier league giants, Masvingo United are positive they will bring back the Manica diamond cup to the province this weekend as they face the newly promoted Mutare based, Tenax FC at Sakubva Stadium.

The Manica Diamond Cup final is underway this weekend.

Masvingo United went through to the finals after they won by a goal to nil against Buffaloes last weekend. Tenax FC won against Makaha FC. The team qualified for the Manica Diamond Cup as they finished at third position.

Masvingo United spokesperson, Godfrey Mutimba said that the team is preparing for the cup.

“We have been training for the best as we want to bring back the trophy to Masvingo. We want to make up for the narrow miss we made of the PSL promotion but we hope next year will aim for the PSL promotion as this year we finished at a better position and next year will do our best.

“We have been working and training for the weekend’s game as we want to come and parade the Cup to our legion of fans. The Cup is ours and we are very positive of it,” said Mutimba.

Una Una as they are affectionately known managed to end at third position with the support they got from the community due to lack of sponsorship.

The strong team came when Masvingo United and Masvingo Pirates joined forces and merged into one team.

Masvingo United has in the past years lifted a number of trophies and Cups. In 2005 they were almost crowned the PSL winners. In 2006, they finished at third position. In 2002 and 2005, they won the ZIFA Unity Cup. 2006 and 2007 they won the Zimbabwe independence trophy and in 2005 they won the OK Woza Bhora.
