Masvingo Covid-19 taskforce committee has dismissed claims that returnees in the province’s quarantine centres are living in poor conditions.

This follows several complaints by returnees that they are not being well taken care of at the quarantine centres.

Returnees claimed they were being held at the centres for more than 21 days.

However the Spokesperson for the Masvingo Covid -19 taskforce provincial committee, Rodgers Irimayi dismissed such claims saying the welfare of the returnees is well catered for by the government.

“Government supplies food in all quarantine centres and so far the food is sufficient. For returnees who do not feel comfortable in being quarantined in government institutions, they are allowed to use their own resources and arrange to be quarantined at hotels, and health officials will manage them from there,” said Irimayi.

He said that no returnees are being made to overstay at the centres.

“The quarantine period is 21 days, so returnees are not overstaying. Infact they are being released earlier to complete the period in self quarantine at home but of cause under health officials management. And today we are going to release 12 at Mushagashe,” he said.

The Rujeko Isolation clinic now has Covid-19 patients who are being monitored by health officials. They visit and do medical checks as well as respond to their other needs.

At the moment Rupangwana Training Centre has 11 while Bikita Training Centre has 1 and Mushagashe now has 52.

Masvingo now has 53 confirmed cases with 38 active cases and 15 recoveries while no death has been recorded in the province
