Masvingo – Masvingo City Council has re – introduced the water rationing time table in a bid to address the city’s water woes.

Masvingo is currently facing water challenges which are being attributed to power outages at the Bushmead water works. This has been worsened by the delay in the Water Augmentation Phase 2.

In a statement City Council Acting Town Clerk, Edward Mukaratirwa said the water shortages are beyond their control.

“Water shortages In the City is due to limited power supply at Bushmead Waterworks resulting in reduction of pumping capacity of the Plant to 50%. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company are working on the repairs to the equipment and residents will be updated of the progress.

“As a result to ensure equitable distribution of water, the Council has zoned the City into three water supply zones that will be supplied with water on two specific days of the week. This will facilitate the supply of water to each zone twice a week,” he said.

Zone A which is Sisk, New Railways, Mucheke D, Chesvingo, Aphiri and Mucheke A are scheduled for Saturday and Tuesday.

Zone B which is KMP, Runyararo West, Runyararo North West and Runyararo South West are scheduled for Monday and Thursday.

Zone C which is Rhodene, Northleigh, Rujeko A, B and C, Clovelly, Pangolin, Majange, Army Cantonments, Mucheke F, Eastvale, Hillside and Target Kopje are scheduled to receive water on Sunday and Wednesday.

Lastly, zone D which is the CBD, Industry and Hospital will receive water daily.

However, the residents have lost trust in the system citing that when it was previously implemented little was done to follow the water rationing schedule.
