Masvingo Province awarded RTGS$1.85 billion for devolution

MASVINGO Province has been allocated a total of RTGS$1.85 billion by government under the devolution program.

This was revealed by Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Ezra Chadzamira at a an event held Friday at Chevron Hotel, Masvingo for the Provincial Leaders Forum.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chadzamira said the funds were disbursed in accordance with the need of each province.

The funds were granted to five local authorities nationwide.

“Bikita RDC received RTGS$29.287 million for the purchase of a tipper truck and construction of classroom blocks.

“Gutu RDC received RTGS$42million for procurement of a motorized grader, ICT upgrading and installation of solar boreholes.

“Masvingo RDC got RTGS$42million for the construction of schools, clinics and procurement of tipper truck.

Mwenezi RDC received RTGS$32million for construction of primary schools while Zaka RDC received RTGS$15 413 790 for clinic renovations,” he said.

He added that other infrastructure development projects would also benefit from the funds.

“Several infrastructure development projects received funding through line Ministries for 2021 amounting to RTGS$6.2 billion covering irrigation schemes, clinics, schools, biogas projects, lodges, restaurants, airports, refurbishment, research, university and vocational training centers.

“The country is on an irreversible recovery path as recently confirmed by the African development Bank with Agriculture and Mining leading other sectors in the recovery and growth process,” he said.

He added that the Transitional Stabilisation Program was starting to yield results.

“We are realising the benefits of TSP through macro- fiscal economic stability and budget surplus.

“Several capital projects like roads, irrigation and dam rehabilitation works are being implemented across the province using our local resources from budget surplus.

“Our local companies are indeed doing a great job on the Beitbridge-Masvingo-Chirundu Highway as a state of the art road is taking shape with the target 200km road rehabilitation along the Masvingo stretch achievable,” Chadzamira said.

Completion of the Chivi –Mhandamabwe road is expected end of this month.
