Masvingo – The Masvingo City Council has launched a campaign to raise funds for Rujeko Clinic, the province’s isolation centre.

The funds availed by the government through the National and Provincial taskforce are not enough.

The fundraising is under the theme “together we can fight COVID – 19” and was supported by the corporate world and local institutions.

Funds from the campaign will go towards the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential material to help capacitate local treatment and isolation facilities.

The City Town Clerk, Edward Mukaratirwa said there is a need for everyone to play a part in the fight against COVID -19.

“There is great need for a collaborative approach if we are to deal with this pandemic in a professional, holistic and sustainable way. We are launching this COVID -19 Support Fund in order to raise the resources required to assist the City Council as well as Masvingo Provincial Taskforce in the fight against this pandemic.

“We are getting resources from both the National Taskforce and the Provincial Taskforce but the resources are not good enough to sustain everyday activities as the isolation centre. Top priority is PPE, there is a need for enough PPE to adequately protect our front line workers,” he said.

The Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer, Ngonidzashe Mapamula also noted that the patients and front line workers at the Rujeko isolation centre were facing many challenges.
