Zimbabwean cleric, Emmanuel Makandiwa, who previously discouraged his congregants from getting Covid-19 vaccine jabs has made a major climbdown today urging them to get vaccinated.

The United Family International Church founder and leader today told his church the vaccines were safe.

Speaking during a televised broadcast on Sunday morning, the preacher said:

“I advise you to consult your doctor on the best decision on vaccination, I also do have doctors, I believe in them they alone are the best people to give you advice on your medical issues they must check and confirm if your health is good enough for the vaccine”.

The influencial cleric went on to encourage his congregants to get vaccinated, adding that he himself has been vaccinated many times.

The stance by Makandiwa is a major back paddling from his anti-vaccines stance which comes at a time when most of his followers could have perished after following his advice.

Makandiwa has been at the center of pushing a vigorous pushback against vaccines using various conspiracy theories with no scientific backing.
