Former Warriors captain, Willard Katsande, who spent a decade at Kaizer Chiefs only to part ways with the team in July has described himself as the club’s legend.

Katsande said this Thursday night during an interview on SABC 1 sports show, Sports @10, anchored by veteran presenter, Thomas Mlambo.

Asked by Mlambo which introduction was most suitable, as one of Sekhukhune United’s new signings or a Kaizer Chiefs legend the 35 year old skipper replied, “Im a Kaizer Chiefs legend chommie (my friend).”

The former Amakhosi player went on to explain how much love he has for the team despite leaving the club.

“Whenever Kaizer Chiefs win i feel happy. I even felt happy as a player and now I amstill feeling happy as a former player.

“I was left with too much excitement when the boys (Chiefs) won the Soweto derby last Sunday to be crowned the 2021 Carling Black Label Cup champions,” he added.

The skipper joined Chiefs from Ajax Cape Town in 2011 and made a record 326 appearances for the club.

He surpassed his fellow countrymen and former Kaizer Chiefs player Tinashe Nengomasha’s record to become the only foreigner with most appearances at the club.

Katsande’s final match for Chiefs was on 17 July 2021, a disappointing 3-0 defeat in the CAF Champions League final against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

In addition, Katsande said the champions league final is one of the most important games of his entire football career.

“Obviously that is a game to remember. I consider it as a game of my life, the match came as a milestone in my football career.

“Believe me not, i regularly quarantined my self just a few days before the match only to ensure that i played the final,” added the former Warriors captain.
