Harare establishes more vaccination centers

Harare City Council has introduced more Covid-19 vaccination centers as a way of speeding up the process and achieving herd immunity in time.


Twenty-four centers which include hospitals, polyclinics and satellite clinics were designated as vaccination centers in the city for about 1.5 million people. 


In a statement the council stated that the decentralization process is a means of creating easier accessibility for residents.


“The Harare City Council would like to notify residents that it has gradually started the decentralization process of the COVID 19 vaccination campaign to enable residents access to the services.

“Residents above 18 are urged to utilize this decentralization initiative and get vaccinated particularly: essential service staff, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, school staff and security sector,” the statement reads.

Government is aiming at inoculating at least 60% of the total population which translates to about 10 million people in order to achieve herd immunity.


To  date 123 454 people have received their vaccination shots. 
The added Covid-19 vaccination centres include, Parirenyatwa, Sally Mugabe Central Hospitals, Wilkins Hospital,  Mbare, Hatcliffe, Highfields, Kuwadzana, Mufakose, Kambuzuma, Warren Park polyclinics, Sunningdale, Hatfield, Southerton, Kuwadzana, Mabelreign, Marlborough, Avondale, Belvedere, Mt Pleasant, Borrowdale, Mabvuku satellite clinics and Highlands, Greendale, Eastlea FHS. 


Zimbabweans are being vaccinated with the Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines. 


The country is expecting to receive more vaccine consignments from Russia, India and from the Covax global distribution scheme.
