Harare Women’s Rugby Club, FS Raiders, will take part in the Victoria Falls Rugby 7s tournament to be held at Victoria Falls Primary School on 7 and 8 December this year.

FS Raiders will be playing at the tournament for the first time and the tournament will be just the second tournament they have ever played.

Club founder, Savious Ngundu said confirmed their participation to this reporter.

“It will be our first time playing at the Victoria Falls 7s tournament as our team is still young. We played  first as a team at ISG 7s back in September. In that tournament we lost to Lady Cheetahs 35-05 and beat Old Georgians 33-07, we beat XP horns 00-43 and the team was captained by Delight Mukomondo,” he said.

He also said that the goal for the team was to have an academy but talent in most females made them to change the approach.

“FS Raiders was formed in 2016 and we started off as just an academy. Later on in 2017 we discovered that there’s potential in the ladies division so we then formed a women’s team. We have not left the academy approach as you will see that most of our players are under 20. Participating at the Vic Falls under 19  tournament shows what we want ,” he said.

Ngundu also said that the club will be playing in the league next year.

“Well, for me it’s always a great opportunity to play in the league next season. It’s always a great honor to play with experienced sides like Old Georgians, Police {to mention a few} we also have the talent so are the numbers. Obviously, being part of this competition is even more special, and scoring in it is the cherry on top of the cake.”

Raiders are being coached by Zimbabwe lady Sables captain Lissy Wasarirevu and it is also being managed by another former Zimbabwe lady Sables player Tatenda Chitewe.

FS Raiders will not be the only team from Harare that will be travelling to Victoria Falls. Allan Wilson School and Girls’ High School will also be taking part in the tournament. FS Raiders travel on Thursday, December 5.
