England Prime Minister (PM), Boris Johnson has confirmed return date for football fans amid the Covid-19 scourge.

The PM announced the new development when he to told the House of Commons.

“The turnstiles of our sports stadia will once again rotate, subject in all cases to capacity limits depending on the size of the venue,” he said.

The FA also expressed gratitude through its statement: “The FA is absolutely delighted that fans will be allowed back soon. The game is simply not the same without them and we look forward to the return of full stadia as soon as it is safe and possible.”

Thousands of football fans will be expected in stadiums around May 17 as the earliest date.

This development indicate that the supporters could return for the final day of the 2020/21 season on May 23.

Atleast 10,000 supporters will be allowed in largest stadiums such as Wembley, whilst smaller stadiums will be limited to 4,000 or half their capacity.

The UK government also confirmed to conduct a series of pilots starting April using enhanced testing approaches and other measures.

This comes as a result to hold events consisting of larger crowd sizes and reduced social distancing to evaluate the outcomes.

In December last year, the UK government allowed a number of limited fans in stadiums for the first time since they were last permitted stadium entry in March 2020.

However, the outbreak of the second wave of the Covid-19 virus forced the government to ban entry of all fans in the stadiums again.
