A security guard at Econet shop located along 1st street yesterday shot himself in the toilet after being summoned to the manager’s office over cellphone handsets he allegedly stole.
The security guard whose identity could not be established as there was no official statement from either Econet or police is believed to have panicked as a result of the summon.
It is understood that the branch is scheduled to carry out a stock take this Friday and preliminary checks showed that a number of the handset could not be accounted for.
This prompted internal investigations which fingered the deceased after a check on CCTV footage.
When asked to report to the manager’s office, the guard asked to use the toilet and shot himself.
