Ecocash has dismissed a statement from the government ordering all mobile money agents to seize operations pending a raft of measures to curtail what they call ” illicit financial flows” fueling inflation.

Instead, EcoCash which is the country’s biggest mobile money transfer has urged it’s customers to continue using the platform .

In a statement, Ecocash said that customers should continue to transact on the platform
as EcoCash is regulated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) which has not yet communicated anything to them.

“We are aware of a statement purporting to have been issued by the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Services that purports to ban all mobile money transactions”

“Ecocash is regulated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and as such would expect communication of that nature from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

” We urge all Ecocash users who exceed 10 million majority who don’t own bank accounts to remain calm , continue to do your lawful transactions as usual “

The statement by EcoCash follows yesterday shocker by government of suspending all mobile money transactions and trading on the Zimbabwe stock exchange leaving Zimbabweans perplexed.

The ban on mobile money transactions is not the first of it’s kind with government earlier on gagging accounts of EcoCash agents accusing them of sabotaging the economy .
