Crisis in Zim Blasts Govt Social Media Snooping

Plans by government to snoop on social media is an infringement on people’s rights to free speech and expression, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition has said .

The conglomerate of civil society organizations Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition said it is greatly concerned by government desire to limit people’s rights to free speech.

“Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition  noted with great concern, plans by the government to restrict freedom of speech and expression through the deployment of a cyber team to monitor citizens on social media.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa administration on November 4, 2021,  announced that they will be setting up a cyber team to “monitor what people send and receive”.

According to Section 61 of the Constitution Subsection (1) “guarantees everyone the right to freedom of expression, and subsections”.
