Covid -19 death toll rises

The total of Covid-19 deaths in the country has risen to seven after a patient from Bulawayo passed on yesterday.

The Health and Child Care ministry confirmed.

“Today we regret to report one facility death of a male aged 49 from Bulawayo Province who tested positive today with a history of travel from South Africa and had co – morbidities.

Bulawayo province reported 10 new recoveries,” the Ministry said.

Seven new cases were also recorded in Bulawayo.

‘Seven cases tested positive for Covid -19 today. These include returnees from South Africa 2, Botswana 1 and four cases who are isolated.

Three of the local cases are contacts to a known confirmed case, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other case.”

Yesterday 121 RDT screening tests and 2727PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 67 105 (36 734 RDT and 30 371PCR).

To date the total number of confirmed cases is 574, recovered 152, active cases 415 and 7deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.

The Ministry continues to advise people to adhere to World Health Organisation Covid-19 guidelines.
