Government has said Harare municipal nurses have agreed on a salary increment with the city’s National Employment Council but the striking nurses will not be paid for the days they missed work.
The council nurses downed tools over two weeks ago demanding flexi hours and wages pegged at the prevailing interbank rate.
Speaking at a post cabinet briefing today (Thursday), Acting Information Minister, Mangaliso Ndlovu said disciplinary hearings on the nurses should still be conducted.
“The industrial action by Harare city council nurses the situation at the municipal clinics remains constrained as only 70 out of the expected 138 nurses are turning up for duty at the 6 municipal clinics.
“Cabinet is cogniscant that an agreement has been reached between the National Employment Council and the nurses trade unions for a salary increment.
“The nurses are therefore expected to return to work soon but will not be paid for the days they have not been reporting for duty
“Disciplinary procedures for the striking nurses will definitely be conducted in according to the law,” he said.
