Makonde Christian Hospital in Mhangura, Mashonaland West has received personal protective equipment (PPEs) as donations from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC).

Addressing during the donations handover ceremony, Mhangura MP, Precious Masango applauded the churches council assistance which she said will come in handy in the fight against Covid-19.

“The gesture taken by the Church comes at a time when the government is working hard to find means of curbing this pandemic that is causing havoc worldwide.

“We really appreciate the assistance that the Church has given to the hospital,” she said.

ZCCs acting secretary general, Tinashe Gumbo said that it was the obligation of the church to act in such a manner during the global pandemic.

“As a corporate social responsibility, our obligation comes amid governments call for every hand on deck during the fight of the deadly bug, he said. The church was concerned about the welfare of the public during the pandemic considering that the governments hand will not be able to give all as is expected by those on the receiving end.

“We felt obliged to assist with basic personal protective equipment such as masks, thermometers and sanitisers amongst other things so as to help improve the welfare of the people in all the communities we serve,” Gumbo said.

The donations include face masks, infrared thermometers, latex gloves, disposable gowns, goggles and hand sanitisers.

Resident doctor at the health facility, Munyaradzi Musiyiwa said the donation would go a long way in aiding and boosting moral of health personnel at the institution.

Makonde district nursing officer, Margaret Gapara challenged nurses at the institution to treat their patients with love and dignity as exemplified by the church.

Makonde Christian Hospital has designated the male ward and pitched a tent outside the premises to serve as isolation centres.

Mhangura Government Primary School near the hospital will be on standby in case it becomes fully occupied.
