Chiredzi MDC -A Ward 19 Councilor, Maxwell Tsodzo has urged transparency when distributing food aid to the vulnerable.

This comes after the Rural District Council donated to his council where livelihoods have been threatened by the global pandemic.

Following the extension of the national lockdown which restricts movement of people by a further two weeks people outside the formal sector are still finding it difficult to earn a living.

The groceries were distributed to a number of families in Chiredzi Ward 19.

Tsodzo said he had taken video footage and images to ensure that the donations were not abused and distributed fairly.

“The donations l made we were given by the rural district council and was distributed to all councilors to give to the vulnerable and l played my part. I made sure to give all the donations l was given to them and l took videos and photos for transparency and accountability. We should not abuse the donations.

The vulnerable people are often side lined and suffer from discrimination and people forget they need our help, disability is not by choice. We should not marginalise but encompass them in whatever we do. People living with disabilities have been highly affected by the national lock down and there is nothing they can do. The country is in fight against the virus, Covid 19,” he said.

“In future it is my desire to compile a list of those living with disabilities so that from the little l get from my wages and share with the those living with disabilities. I did it from the bottom of my heart as disability is not a choice and the sky only is the limit”.
