Chinhoyi Municipality has started the construction of a new clinic in the high density suburbs’ as a measure to decongest Chinhoyi and Chikonohono clinics since the town is expanding.

The new clinic is being constructed in Hunyani surburb, using the old Hunyani beer hall, which has not been in use for some time.

Tichaona Mlauzi the council spokesperson stated that renovations have been taking place at the beer hall cum clinic and almost nearing completion.

“Chinhoyi clinic has been congested for some time due to the towns expansion and increase of people moving into the town, as such we saw it wise to develop another clinic at the other side of town for people so as to avoid delays in health assistance,” he said.

“We are almost done with the renovations and expect to have the clinic doors open to the public by June this year.”

Chinhoyi Mayor Garikai Dendera said that it has always been a priority of the Council to offer services and have facilities that are closer to where the residents are, for inconveniences that may occur.

“It is always top priority for the council to offer services and have facilities that are of importance to the public near them, because we all do not know when and how inconveniences can occur,” he said.

He however bemoaned the delays that has been brought by covid-19 induced national lockdown as they could not access some of the materials needed for construction.

“This global pandemic of Covid-19 has been affecting the renovations. The clinic would have been completed a long time ago but due to the lockdown restrictions the council has been working slowly and at their best to ensure that everything is there, because some of the shops that sell the required materials were not in operation hence resulting in the delays”.

“Another challenge was of constructors they were not in big numbers due to fear of contracting the virus amongst themselves, they were working with limited numbers. But now with the ease of restrictions our target is to have the facility running by June,” Dendera said.
