Every gospel music lover understands that message is key in a song.

Whether it is secular or worship music, the message has to be critical. Then, of course, the vocals have to be on point. The falsettos, vibratos and melody always hit home in this genre. How about a song that gives one a package of amazing varieties to pick from including the use of different languages?

One artist, Chelsea Mguni, could have come up with a song that not only preaches hope but also showcases her talent.

Her new song, ‘Shoko renyu’ centered on repentance, salvation and living for God is well presented and will leave one yearning for more. Her switch from Shona to Ndebele to English is an act of genius.

Her song also has biblical relevant as she sings about how she has taken the word of God straight to her heart keeping it so that she doesn’t sin.

She sings, “Shoko renyu ndakariviga mukati memoyo kuti ndirege kukutadzirai (I have hid you word inside my heart so that I won’t sin against you). Ndaive mutadzi mukuru kwazvo ndisingaone ndisingaizive (I used to be a sinner, I was blind, I was ignorant). Asi nenyasha dzenyu baba neruoko rwenyu imi makandinyurura muzvizvi zvangu (But with your mercy father and your hand, you pulled me out of sin).”

Chelsea is not new to the music scene as in 2018 she recorded her first album titled The praise Offering. She also worked with Jonah Chivasa collaborating on the hit song “Ndozvinoita Nyasha” which was produced by renowned producer, Mcdonald Macdee Chidavaenzi.

Chelsea Mguni is a Bulawayo based gospel artist, with an avid passion for music and deep love for God. She started her music ministration at a tender age but took her musical journey professionally in 2013 when she joined Vocal Extraordinaire Choir founded by Mr Thembelani Mdlaziba, where she showcased her musical talent leading to her touring different countries like the UK, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia just to mention a few. She also toured locally in different cities around Zimbabwe.

Chelsea eventually parted ways with the Choir before she worked with Joyous Celebration icon Ayanda Shange in a song titled “Tinoti Mwari Varipo”.

The Bulawayo based musician has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with great musicians like Pastor Solly Mahlangu, Sipho Makhabane, Pastor Gee, Tembalami Praise, Takesure Ncube just to mention a few.

Her delivery for simple lyrics is on “Shoko Renyu” unmatched and the instrumentation is on point too. The song was produced by Eternity Records and is currently being played on local radio stations.
