Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change Beats Zanu PF in 8 Council By-elections

The Citizens Coalition for Change has won seven of the eight contested council by elections in various towns and cities.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, CCC’s Marko Lovemore got 975 votes while his nearest rival, Mlambo Charamba received 394 votes.

The MDC Alliance candidate, Bothwell Batsika only got 22 out of the 1,404 votes cast yesterdat in Chitungwiza’s Ward 7.

In Makoni, CCC candidate Lyton Sithole beat Zanu PF’s Brighton Manhuhwa.

CCC candidates won in Mutare Ward 14 with CCC’s Patrick Masenyama getting 819 votes while Jonah Wellington Moyo of Zanu PF received 493; Mutare Ward 16 – CCC’s Catherine Sekai Mukodza (CCC, 1,054), Webster Mudzimwa (Zanu PF, 406); Mt. Darwin – Gift Madziwa (Zanu PF, 1,461), Samuel Tobias (77); Kariba Ward 3 – Farayi Mageva (CCC, 718), Albert Chakwara (Zanu PF, 398); Kariba Ward 4 – George Masendu (CCC, 241), Joshua Mukwesha (Zanu PF, 125); Kariba Ward 8 – Pedzisayi Mushuwei (CCC, 107), Samuel Machemba (Zanu PF, 62).

In a Twitter message, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said, “Fellow Citizens. Congrats for #CCC 7/8 wards landslide victory in yesterday’s by-elections, against all odds & because of you citizens. Thank you for continuing to solidly support, mobilize and vote for change. Be part of the victorious forces. Join now. Support Change!”

There was no official comment from the ruling party.
