CCC Marondera rally ‘banned’

by Bustop TV News

POLICE have banned the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally which was scheduled for this Saturday in Marondera.

In a letter sent to the party member of parliament Caston Matewu, Marondera district regulating authority  said their intended venue had already been booked before them.

“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 24 February 2023 received on 24 February 2023 at Marondera District Headquarters.

“Kindly be advised that your notification to have a rally at Paradise Shopping Center (PaCaravan) Ward 10 of Marondera Municipality may not go ahead on 4 March 2023 from 10 am to 5pm because the venue had already been booked by another organization prior to your notification,” the letter reads.

Last month, CCC was again banned from holding rallies in Chiwanzamarara, Marondera; Chikomba in Mashonaland East, Chendambuya in Makoni district and another one in rural Mutare.

CCC’s Matewu said the party is now officially a banned organisation as they are never given permission to hold their events.

“Despite assurances, police now say ZANU Pf had already booked for a rally at the same venue. It’s official, we are now a banned organization.

“Despite all this, we are marching to victory,” Matewu said.

The CCC has not been allowed to hold a rally since last year’s campaign period ahead of March by-elections.

Last year two of CCC rallies ended violently after attacks by suspected  Zanu PF supporters in Kwekwe.
