LOCAL philanthropist, Marvelous Tshuma has donated a wheelchair to Masvingo’s Samuel Rangaridzai.

This follows a spirited social campaign by Vimbai Chese (22) and Tendai Mafuka (22) to secure a wheelchair for Rangaridzai who crawled to get from one point to another.

Chese and Mafuka from the Chosen Generation and Seath Trust organisation made appeals on social media platforms before Tshuma and Kingle Sibanda reached out and offered assistance.

Rangaridzai left his Bikita home where his relatives disowned him due to his disability and moved to Masvingo where he lives in the Mucheke Rank squatter camp.

Occasionally he travels back to Bikita to visit his wife and two children.

With no formal job, he survives on begging.

Rangaridzai expressed his gratitude saying, “The wheelchair came to me as a blessing and l was not anticipating receiving it, almost the entire of my life l having been using my hands to move around and had to survive on the mercy of the others. May God bless those who landed a hand to help me, the donation will go a long way and let me not be the one who will benefit but a lot of people out there facing challenges.”

In an interview Chese, who helped secure the wheel chair said social media worked for the best.

“The way Rangaridzai moved around really moved me as he was facing difficulties in moving around, it is not easy to move around crawling when one is not able bodied. Together with Mafuka we decided to make campaigns on social media to make sure he gets a wheelchair as we saw that on our; we could not afford to buy him one. All thanks to Tshuma and Sibanda to saw our campaign and reached out to us, the wheelchair which they delivered yesterday and unfortunately they could not stay longer to witness the handover of the wheelchair.

There are a lot of people who are in need of assistance but we should help them all they can because we are there to help each other.”
