The British Embassy in Harare has denied a document (photo) that is circulating on social media platforms allegedly communicating that it was to intensify support for the MDC to remove Robert Mugabe in the 2002 Presidential election.

The letter which was allegedly addressed to the British Defense Secretary by the United Kingdom Secretary of State dated 12 November 2001 claims that the late MDC founding father, Morgan Richard Tsvangirayi (late) had approached the UK government for more funding and support to dislodge Zanu PF.

“I have received communication from Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s party Movement for Democratic Chance and these are the recommendations, 1; that we should immediately mobilize more fund’s to get the party more liquid… 2; that we should mobilize for more civil movement for civil disobedience in Mr Mugabe wins the Presidential election in 2002..” reads part of the discredited letter.

However the British Embassy in a tweet refuted the existence of such a communique saying it was fake.

“It has been brought to our attention that a photo is being shared online pretending to show a UK government document from 2001. This document is a fake and should be dismissed as such.”
