The High Court has today ruled that the extension of Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s is invalid.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa had extended Malaba’s tenure by an additional five years past his retirement age (70) despite court challenges against the move.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Happias Zhou said, “In view of the decision that we have reached, Honourable Malaba ceased being a judge and Chief Justice at 0000hrs on 15 May 2021.”
