Blow for Warriors as 5 players test positive for corona virus

It is a huge set back for the Zimbabwe senior national team after five players from the CHAN squad tested positive of the novel corona virus.

This comes at a time when the Logarusic coached side are in camp in preparation of the upcoming CHAN tournament that will kickstart on 16 january in Cameroon.

Speaking to this publication the Warriors coach said the players have began to isolate themselves.

This is in line with the World Health Organisation( WHO) covid-19 regualtions inorder to curb the spread of the virus.

“We players that have tested positive to the corona virus pandemic but as we speak there a re already in isolation,” the coach said.

The Croat also added that a re-test will take place since some of these covid-19 test kits are fake.

“We will try to re-test these players because some of these test kits are fake and the results might not be accurate,” he said.

Names of the fives players are not yet announced, however if the players fail to travel to Cameroon it will remain a huge blow to the coach who recently trimmed his squad to 23-man last sunday.

Meanwhile, with only two weeks left for the CHAN tournament played by players who ply in their domestic leagues, Warriors returnee and Ngezi Platinum Stars midfielder, Denver Mukamba is facing passport issues.

However, speaking to NewsDay sport, Warriors team manager, Wellington Mpandare said he is tirelessly working on securing the 2012 soccer star of the year passport and they have already applied for it.

“We have already applied for Denver Mukamba’s passport and we expect that anytime this week we will receive it,” Mpandare told NewsDay sport.

Zimbabwe will hosts Cameroon in the opening match of the CHAN tournament on the 16th of january, later play against Burkina Faso and Mali in their group A fixtures.
