Army, Police Accepting Bribes From Lockdown Violators- Anti- Corruption Trust

A damning report by the Anti-corruption Trust of Southern Africa has revealed that members of the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Republic Police and Municipal police officers who were deployed nationwide to enforce the coronavirus-induced lockdown are reportedly soliciting for bribes from members of the public .

This report indicated that law enforcement agencies while enforcing lockdown regulations are soliciting bribes from unsuspecting members of the public who would have broken lockdown laws such as travelling without proper documentation as well as not wearing masks .

“Zimbabwe Republic Police officers, soldiers, and municipal police are soliciting for bribes in exchange for giving a blind eye to violations of the COVID-19 regulations as well as helping all those arrested to enjoy freedom” part of the report read .

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police over 40 682 people have so been arrested for violating Covid-19 lockdown regulations as the Government steps up efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
