When an artist on a meteoric rise like Holy Ten stops over in Bulawayo to get merchandise from a fashion shop as trendy as Stars 29 the message for the music lovers will have been sent. The boy is ready to rock fresh designs for a great show. Talent and freshness combined looks set to be the New Year’s vibe in Victoria Falls as an array of superstars will flock into the town.

The gracious extravaganza dubbed the Mapopoma Festival which is set for the New Year’s Eve going into the New year has a star studded line up including Takura, Holy Ten, Jah Signal, Nutty O and Enzo Ishall among others. Also in the same town will be Poptain and Bazooka for a shutdown gig.

What makes the Vic Falls shutdown big ?

The show has the domestic tourism brand, ZimBho involved and obviously being hosted at The Kingdom in the Great Enclosure, the bar has already been set high.
Nutty O and Poptain probably have the song of the moment, Kokai. The track has become an anthem. Nutty O has Safe and Poptain also has Fadza Mutengi. Holy Ten is the man of the moment with his piercing social commentary lyrics which are like a reflection on the young people. With his songs, Ten has managed to have many youths devoted to his message as his influence has grown in leaps and bounds. Then obviously Takura has churned out hits like Zino Irena and Zvemoyo.

Enzo Ishall adds to the sweet list of these hitmakers with a huge chunk of chart topping tracks which include Siya something, Oh Mari yako and Kanjiva. Recently he had his song Chidavado endorsed by prominent businessman, Philip Chiyangwa and Jah Prayzer. Enzo has been consistent with his art since the release of Kanjiva. Jah Signal also falls in the category of these sleek artists with hits like Sweetie. He also adds value to the show as he is a serious entertainer. Bazooka is up there as in terms of lyrical genius and performance.

Having all these musicians on one stage could just be the best act of brilliance since the galas era. Since most of these artists are based in Harare, Victoria Falls fans will likely get a rare treat. The best meals are usually served on the road.

What is missing

A little Sungura is missing. One of the Dendera brothers could have easily added even more value to the gig. Recently Allan, Sulumani and Tryson Chimbetu came out with blazing hot albums which have set stage for the redemption of Sungura. Including them would have put some attention to the brand.
Maybe in future events it could be good to consider the Sungura genre.

Where else to be

As Covid 19 is ravaging, it’s advisable to stay safe at home. Those attending the Mapopoma Festival are equally advised to adhere to the COVID 19 regulations because the pandemic is real!
