ZPCS Urges Officers To Be Vigilant

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu Thursday afternoon encouraged all prison officers to remain vigilant and disciplined on duty to avoid inmate’s prison escapes.

In a statement, ZPCS said officers should be professional when conducting their duties.

“Commissioner General M.C.N Chihobvu encouraged officers to be vigilant and disciplined whenever they are on duty in order to prevent escapes.

“He also said that for ZPCS to achieve it’s mission, officers need to observe professional conduct and work as a team.”

Chihobvu was speaking at Khami complex in Bulawayo.

This was during his third assessment tour of farming and construction projects being carried out in Matebeleland South, Matebeleland North and the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province.

Early this month (October) a serial rapist, Sam Muropa aged 31 reportedly escaped jail on 1 October, 2021 at Harare Remand Prison with the help from some prison officers.

Muropa was arrested in August charged with various different cases including 19 counts of robbery, six counts of rape, one count of aggravated indecent assault and three counts of indecent assault.

Other counts included money laundering, impersonating an officer after allegedly masquerading as a soldier to commit a all these crimes in Harare.
