A Zimbabwean woman who recently travelled into the country from China’s Wuhan Province is being monitored at Wilkins infectious disease hospital in Harare in a suspected case of Coronavirus.

Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control in the Ministry of Health and Childcare, Portia Munangazira who confirmed the development said that samples have been taken and tests are being conducted.

The results will be out in a few days.

“I want to officially confirm that we are monitoring a suspected case of a 27 year old female who traveled from Wuhan province in January. She has not yet shown any respiratory related signs but we have sent samples for the tests and expecting results in the next few days.”

The hospital has since transfered all of its patients to Beatrice Infectious Disease Hospital.

Harare City Council Health Director Prosper Chonzi said, “We have a patient we admitted, a Zimbabwean who came from China yesterday (Tuesday) and has been in isolation since.

“We have taken samples and we expect results by end of day tomorrow. She had been tested before, however.

“When we took her, we decided to admit her instead of following her after she has interacted with others.

“Other patients who were there have been moved to Beatrice, in fact we had already moved them there as part of our drills.”

All gates at the hospital have been locked with no one allowed in or out of the hospital while guards are manning the entrances.
