Zim records highest number of daily Covid-19 infections

Zimbabwe yesterday recorded the highest number of new infections (98) since the onset of the outbreak of Covid -19 in March.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care confirmed said, “Ninety – eight cases tested positive for Covid -19 yesterday. These include returnees from Botswana (28), South Africa (22), Swaziland1 and 47local cases who are isolated. Forty three of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other 4local cases.”

Bulawayo had 51 new cases while Matabeleland South recorded 21 cases, Midlands had 15 cases and Mashonaland West had 11new cases.

Matabeleland North Province recorded 5 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 206.

Yesterday 136 RDT screening tests and 606 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 82 077 and 34 766PCR.

To date the total number of confirmed cases id 885, recovered 206, active cases 670 and 9deaths.

The Ministry continues to alert citizens to protect themselves and others; and to report to the health authorities any suspicious returning citizens or residents that might not have gone through quarantine.
