Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has said it has filed a police report after an electoral officer was harassed by a MDC Alliance candidate and agents yesterday at Mhizha Primary School in Highfield East Constituency.

In a statement released by ZEC today, the electoral officer was harassed while conducting her duties.

The video is circulating on social media implying that she was contravening the law.

ZEC however claimed “the presiding officer was checking received election material to ascertain that all was in order  before the conduct of the election”.

ZEC has since reported the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for investigation.

Part of the statement reads: “The actions of MDC Alliance candidate and agents constitute and electoral offense  as outlined in paragraph 7(i)(c) of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates. The commission has reported the matter to the police for investigation.

“The commission wishes to reiterate that there is a polling station opening procedure which is done before opening of polling stations, where all electoral material is checked and verified by polling officers.”
