ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Obert Mpofu has been caught up in a nasty land grab scandal, seizing a farm belonging to Siphosami Malunga son to late national hero, Sydney Malunga.

Malunga, co-owns the farm with businessman, Charles Moyo, and Zephania Dlamini.

In a tweet, Malunga wrote:“I just received a message from my partner Zeph Dhlamini at Esidakeni. Dr Obert Mpofu sent his son  and scores of people there. They are ploughing our fields. They chased our workers from the irrigation points & threatened them against taking pictures. This is what Zimbabwe has become.”

He added, “We will defend our rights. We will evict him and his people and we will not rest until he answers for his corrupt and criminal abuse of power and authority. We know we are not his only victims. How does ZANU PF allow and justify this?”

Malunga also said that liberation heroes would be turning in their graves.

“So this was the cowardly threat he was making: to invade our farm. Our fathers and other liberation heroes are surely turning in their graves. But we will fight Dr Obert Mpofu. He does not intimidate us.”

Malunga’s father, Sydney, was arrested in 1985  for being a vocal critic of government corruption, abuse of human rights and political persecution inter alia.

As a leading political actor, civic leader and outspoken MP, he was targeted and persecuted by the late President Robert Mugabe’s regime for political reasons.

He was arrested on false politically motivated charges alongside other senior Zapu leaders and top ZIPRA commanders in the 1980s for allegedly plotting to overthrow government.

He was only released to pave way for Unity talks which were held in 1987.

He died on 28 August 1994 in a car accident as he tried to avoid hitting “a black dog” and was buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
