The ruling Zanu PF party has maintained its stance that POLAD a grouping of fringe political actors is the only vehicle for engagement much to the chagrin of opposition agitation for a new dialogue framework.
Addressing the 348th Post Politburo Press Briefing, Zanu PF spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said that the Politburo affirmed it’s stance that POLAD is the only vehicle for political engagement in the country and barraged the opposition MDC-T and MDC Alliance for agitation.
“We say no to agitation. More to engagement for the benefit of promoting unity of purpose across the political divide in the spirit of POLAD created by His Excellency President Mnangagwa,”he said.
Khaya Moyo singled out the MDC Alliance which he accused of endlessly insulting them (Zanu PF) and said the opposition has nothing to offer.
“The opposition has nothing to offer. ZANU PF has been a victim of insults from the MDC Alliance but it will not be distracted from fulfilling the promise of increasing production in all sectors of the economy,” sain SK Moyo.
However the MDC Alliance through its Youth Assembly spokesperson Mr Stephen Chuma has come out guns blazing saying “platform and players matter in any meaningful dialogue”
“Dialogue rantings attributed to ZANU PF clearly exposes ZANU PF’s ego-centric and bullish attitude towards the very same political opponents they intend to dialogue with”, said Chuma.
Chuma said that according to MDC Alliance president Advocate Nelson Chamisa’ POLAD is a nonentity .
“President Nelson Chamisa has always reiterated that POLAD is a poisoned chalice hence it can never be an ideal platform for any meaningful dialogue”.
There has been loud calls for a new framework of dialogue outside POLAD from controversially newly elected MDC-T president Mr Douglas Mwonzora as well as MDC Alliance vice president Mr Tendai Biti.
