An online platform, a video and audio production studio Disrapt, will be producing a much anticipated urban grooves documentary coined, “Urban Grooves “The Journey” Documentary” on the 28th of April as a way of celebrating local talent by telling the story of the urban grooves genre.

The documentary will be telling on the journey of the urban grooves with various stakeholders such as the government of Zimbabwe, promoters, producers and artists, how it started, its successes and flows to where it is right now.

Production team promises that the documentary will shed some light on the way the genre started and the impact it brought to the Zimbabwean music industry, demonstrating how artists took up the challenge to create an exciting industry and write a piece of history in the Zimbabwean music industry.

Producer Ronald Munashe Ngwerume Founder and Creative Director of Disrapt and Velron Media said the purpose of the documentary is to raise awareness on the impact made in the music industry of the era and share the journey of Zimbabwean Musicians.

“When we came up with the idea of doing a documentary, we had realized that there wasn’t enough documentation in Zimbabwe. The impact made by this era in the music industry was massive and we need to raise awareness of it.

“In addition to recognizing the efforts of the government, producers and artists, we wanted to showcase the music industry and to share the journeys of some of Zimbabwe’s musicians,”

Documentary Director Jasper Mhishi Founder, Creative Director and Producer at Creative Thinker Inc said the reason he got involved was to recognize and celebrate those who changed the culture and narratives of how music is consumed in this Zimbabwean era and also that the documentary will be good for people to know their identity.

The Documentary will have contributors like renowned producer and guitarist Clive Mono Mukundu, Social Entrepreneur Plot Mhako, Musician Diana Samkange Mangwenya, Producer Alex ‘ZezuruRocksta’ Muringani and Music Producer/Artist Walter ‘Walter 21’ Ngwerume. They share their honest opinions and look into the journey of Urban Grooves.
